Audio Preview

A friend asked me:

"Is there no way to have audio output through the dv-device when previewing video in VV3?"

I would say: No, it's only possible through the soundcard when prewieving.

Am I right?

If I am not mistaken, I can hear sound when previewing to my monitor thru the firewire input to it.

No, you can't. Vegas can't interleave the audio with the video streaming out of the firewire port for preview. If you RENDER THE FILE and set as a print to tape, you can monitor, but otherwise, you are using the sound card always.
