Audio Problems with DVDA 3.0

I am wondering if anyone else has encountered a peculiar problem with the audio from DVDA 3.0. I have recently been made aware that my DVD's authored from Mpeg2 files sometimes have quite low sound volume when played on a player connected directly to the TV. I have not been able to re-produce the problem myself but customers complain that they have to increase the volume to the extent that it becomes distorted. I use AC3 Stereo setting and the Mpeg files are rendered in stereo at 48khz. The DVD's play fine in a player connected via AV connections. Any help would be appreciated.

Search this forum with the keyword of "normalization" - there's a number of discussions. In a nutshell, try this:

On the DVDA AC3 template in Vegas:

Change the dialog normalization to -31

On the PreProcessing tab, change both the Line mode profile and RF mode profile to NONE

Thanks ScottW for your response but I'm afraid I'm must be a bit thick! I cannot for the life of me find either the DVDA AC3 template or the PreProcessing tab that you refer to. Are these perhaps functions on the later version? If not could I impose upon you again to please explain how to get to these functions. Thanks.

Sorry, there is no specific AC3 template for DVDA. File, Render As... - select AC3 as the file type, the default template will be displayed, click the customize button.

ScottW, Thanks again....now I get it. Well, sort of. Fact is my problem is with DVDA not Vegas and I'm not sure, without a lot of hassle, how, or why, I would render the Audio separately from the video tracks,

The workflow specified by the documention is to render the video using one of the DVDA templates from Vegas, and then as a seperate step, render the audio from Vegas using the appropriate type and template, either PCM (WAV) or AC3. None of the DVDA templates in Vegas include audio multiplexed with the video.

If you name both files the same (except for extension) and put them in the same directory, then when you bring the video into DVDA it will automatically bring in the audio. When you prepare the project, DVDA will multiplex the audio and video together (along with other information) as needed.

Thanks Scott. I've tried your suggestion and although it seems to fix my audio problem I am now faced with a video that skips. At the end of the day I am not at all convinced that my problem(s) are anything to do with DVDA but rather burn speed. I have slowed the speed to 8x and all seems to be well. Thanks for your assistance.
