audio proxy failure

I captured 52 minutes of DV using your capture program.
When I bring it into VideoFactory it complains that the
audio format changes after 2:53 seconds and it truncates
the audio at that point. I investigated the tape. The
first 2:53 of the tape are silent, but the rest of the tape
has sound. So what I end up with is 2:53 of correctly
captured silence followed by 49 minutes of truncated
audio. This is not acceptable.

I tried loading the capture file into VideoWaveIII. It
correctly plays the first 2:53 in silence, and also has the
correct sound for the remaining 49 minutes.

I used to have to use both VideoWaveIII and Video Factory
to do my work. I got over those problems and went
exclusively with Video Factory. It looks like I'll have to
go back to using both products again.

I really like Video Factory - better than Video WaveIII, an
better than Premier. I just wish it worked right and had
better documentation.

Hi Ron...it seems there is a format change on the actual
footage from 12bit to 16bit or vice versa at that
location. And VF and Vegas both use the first audio format
they find for the whole file. The proper way to handle
this is for the capture program to automatically "sniff"
this format change out and then start capturing to a new
file...a future version may address this. For the present,
you can recapture the footage up to the 2:53 time and stop
capture and then start a second capture for the remainder
of the footage.

Thanks!

Another option, which would require recapturing the whole
footage, would be to enable the preference in Video Capture
called "Capture audio and video to separate streams (Type 2
AVI) and then recapture. This puts the audio and video
into separate streams within the single .avi file and
avoids creating an audio proxy file in VF.
