Audio question

I am importing cassette tape media via the headphone jack into Vegas to make cds. (Short time frame- family reunion this weekend and the tape is from 35 years ago at a family reunion!) Because I am using the headphone jack, I hear nothing as it is importing. Shouldn't I be able to hear it from Vegas? Is there a setting or something that would allow me to do this? I watch the sound waves, but some of it is minutes upon minutes of speaking, and I would like to be able to hear what is being imported.

Thank you!!!

check the little speaker in the lower right & make sure the line in/mic are enabled for use.

right click the record button, choose record input monitor.

Why on earth are you recording via the headphone outs?

On the timeline (audio) there is an "arm for record" button (looks like a target). You push that to get ready to record. Then you have to hit the record button at the bottom of the timeline display close to the play arrow when you start playback from the cassette recorder. You should then be able to hear what is being recorded and see it on the timeline also.

Also, recommend you take the 3/8" output (headphone out) from the cassette player into the mic in on your sound card of your computer for input (assuming you don't have another output from cassette player like a composite audio (white or red).

Hope this helps.

Ah, perhaps you meant you had your cassette player plugged into the headphone jack on your computer... that won't do anything.

Update us on how you're coming with this project. Are you able to record into vegas?
