Does anyone have experience in using Olympus LS-P4 audio recorder as a microphone for a video camera? It saves the audio in FLAC format. Could FLAC files be used as an extra soundtrack in Vegas Pro 14 (build 270)?
Vegas has supported FLAC files for quite a while now, if I remember correctly. Certainly Vegas Pro 15 does, I'm sure ver 14 does as well. I frequently use them in Vegas and render to that format from Vegas as well.
In regards to using your Olympus as a mic source for your video cam .... what kind of input does your camera support? is it 1/8" ? 1/4" balanced? Or balanced XLR? Output on your Olympus audio recorder? Probably 1/4" stereo (or dual mono) line level, I would guess. You will need to look in your vid cam's documentation & make sure it supports line level input. If it does you will probably be able to go straight from the Olympus into your vid cam, with maybe an adapter. But if your vid cam only accepts mic level input then you will have to use a converter, and step the level down from line to mic level so your vid cam can record it correctly. Be aware; line level can damage a mic level input. It would certainly overload a mic level input and cause an ugly distorted signal.
Let us know what type of input you have and what the output type is and maybe we can recommend a process that will work for you.
My video cam is Sony FDR-AX 100, with a normal 3.5mm stereo audio jack. From cam manual I found only that
microphone level control is 31 steps. To use Olympus LS-P4 as microphone I
need resistive connection cord with stereo mini-plugs (3.5 mm diameter) on both ends. Used to connect the earphone jack output to the line input when recording. Sorry, but I am a total novice at all of this.
