audio sync issue (vegas 9 platinum)

Hello-
I'm having an issue whereby the audio that was recorded with the video on my kodak zi8 isn't properly syncing with the video- there's a lag of over a second between the two, and I can't seem to do anything about it.. The files play fine in Windows Media Player and in Quicktime. I have been able to mitigate this problem somewhat by ungrouping the audio from the video and slip moving, however, with smaller clips especially it seems the leading edge of the video potion of the clips is missing altogether, so there's only so much I can do.
Using the synchronize command in the shortcut menu is ineffective, as it seems Vegas does not recognize that it's out of sync to begin with.

I had changed the file extensions from. MOV to .mp4 before downloading onto my computer from the SDHC card. Also, I have de-installed and reinstalled itunes and quicktime, taking them back to versions 8 and 7.62, respectively.

Any insight anyone has would be sincerely appreciated!
thanks.

update- I still haven't been able to figure this out.

Anyone want to chime in and take a crack at what might be going on?

thanks!

I had this problem once with files recorded on my computer from a TV tuner card. Never did find out what was causing it, sorry.

thanks. yeah, it's a weird problem. someone from sony wrote back to me today and said it was not an issue they were familiar with. I uploaded a file to them so they can see for themselves what is going on....I'll keep this thread updated with their reply in case it is useful to anyone.

This is a common, but not universal occurrence, with zi8 and Playsport files in Sony Vegas. The workaroud for now, is to shift the audio by exactly two seconds. Very simple, actually. The 2 second audio offset does not affect everyone with these cameras, and the workaround is rather simple (this has been tested):

Thanks, Musicvid. I did actually try that, or at least a variation of it (I found that it synced well at around 1.25 seconds or so of offset). The problem in my case is that some of the clips I'm working with are themselves only about two seconds long. So if there is a two second long clip of say, someone talking, the screen might not actually show the speaker's lips move on the upstream part of that particular clip for about a second, as the video is at that point frozen.
Guess I could make sure in the future to always have extra length on each clip that I can trim, but in this case it's a situation where recapturing isn't a viable option.

One thing I might try is to edit the clips together in something like imovie (on a friend's mac, maybe), then bring it back into Vegas as an mp4 for final tweaking, whereby I can use a variation of the workaround you've described.
