Audio Sync To Picture - Real Time Preview

Hi. I can't seem to figure this out and am hoping someone can steer me in the right direction. Let's say you have a guy walking down a hall and you want to sync footstep sounds to every footstep. I want to drag my .WAV file of a footstep and have the preview video update while I slide the .WAV to get good sync. Is there any way to do this? I'd also like to have the cursor position move with my .WAV sliding but I can't seem to find that solution either.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give!

You could try a couple of things:

You might try looping playback on the footfall while you nudge the .wav to the spot you like,

or you might try jogging through the shot slowly dropping a marker at each footfall, then snap your wav files to each marker.

Dwight,

Lessons 1 and 2 of the Tutorial in the Vegas 3.0 User Manual cover the techniques you need to use.

press the "M" key every time you think a foot sound should be heard like marty said
then go back and put the foot sound in where the marker is
it's really simple
but if you really want to know what you're doing, read the manual
god i sound like tech support??!!
READ THE MANUAL READ THE MANUAL
when i started in november they said ---YOU SHOULD REALLY READ THE MANAUL
they were right!!!
i got a million times better from reading the manual and reading this forum

I appreciate the comments guys but it is not what I'm looking for. Dropping markers and nudging sounds I can do. I'm looking for similar functionality like you can do in Pro Tools with a Quicktime video. You drag a sound, the picture follows in realtime, and you drop it at your sync point. It's a matter of efficiency. No need to drop markers in one pass then add your sounds in another. One pass that's all I'm asking for! :)

I've only skimmed the help file and manual but didn't see what I needed, was hoping someone else familiar with Pro Tools on the Mac might have some workaround. I'll dig into my manual and see if there's a way to get what I want.

Thanks!

For one pass you might try copying the sound into the cut-buffer...

...then scrub with the arrow keys (or jkl shuttle) and paste at each footfall.

Not the same as you describe, but one-pass at any rate.

Every program has it's own interface and way of working.
I agree with the marking the footsteps with the Markers (just click M).
Then copy the footstep.
Go to the first Marker.
Paste the footstep on the footstep track.
CNTRL+Right Arrow to move to the next marker.
Paste - Click - Paste - Click - couldn't be easier - unless you're doing a tap dance video.

i've worked with pro tools and using the marker "M" key is 100 times easier
and more efficient
there is no lag so it's really ez
this is how i did a friends music video and it came out awesome
they were all impressed
when i showed them how ez it was, they wanted to go into the editing business instead of trying to make it in music---hehe
markers is the way to go
btw--i am so bored i am watching womens tennis on usa
i can't get motivated to continue reading acid
ho hum ho hum
