Audio that I speed up doesn't play back sped up

HELP!
I am working on a project and anytime I speed up or slow down audio using the CMD button nothing happens on the playback? For instance if I speed it up it plays back normal speed and then gets cutoff.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I tried changing the audio playback settings but its no use!

What do you mean by the "CMD button"?

Please explain the exact steps you are doing.

Maybe you meant CTRL/control button?
CTRL + dragging the clip-event shorter or longer will make the video AND audio play faster or slower.

The audio should playback faster. Did you check if the event grouping option is enabled? (the little green lock button) or select both the audio and video and hit G, for group. Then CTRL+ Drag again.

Otherwise only the video OR audio part (not both) of the clip-event will be changed.

And If you meant that the audio 'pitch' doesn't change (if you wanted it to sound like a mouse voice) then that should be done separately. With pitch shift or pitch bend SFX, you could also do that with Sound forge.

One can also manually change the sample rate in Sound Forge which would speed-pitch up/down like changing the PB speed with on an analog tape machine. The file would need to be 're-sampled' back to 48k to save the change. (it would not sync with the video)

Sorry, yes I mean the CTRL button! I use it to speed up a take, a song, or anything, and all that happens is that the file plays at the regular speed and cuts off where It would if not sped up.

EG the program and the event show 125%, but the file plays at regular speed and cuts off where it would normally end.

This is the case in both Vegas 12 AND 13, which makes me think it is a setting or a sound card issue or something.

What kind of file is the audio (mp3, wav, etc)?

WAV. The files themselves are long, these are smaller snippets of a longer file. Does that impact it?

You are holding the Ctrl key down while you drag the right hand end of the clip, aren't you?

yes. but it doesn't matter what I do, the speedup or slow down doesn't happen. I can make a video of it.

hold please.
