Audio Timecode syncing work around

Philuk wrote on 1/5/2023, 3:23 AM

Hi,

I'm putting together a project which is shooting on a Sony A7Siii but taking timecode from the main unit camera via either a Tentacle or Deity. Both systems put audio timecode on one channel of sound.

Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to extract the audio TC and use it to sync all the footage on a Vegas timeline?

Many thanks

Phil

Thanks DMT3, I'ver asked the question to Customer support at Deity. I'll get back to you with an answer.

The Tentacle Timecode-Tool is very easy to use, but does not always work well (passthrough with specific Panasonic GH5 AVC-files for example). You have to try it, if it works and already fits your needs.

Also very nice is this tool: https://www.videotoolshed.com/product/ltc-convert-auxtc
Much more powerful, but not for free...

Under the hood, both use FFMPEG for video transcoding, and with LTC-Convert you can even set the conversion parameters. I nowadays only use the actual LTC-Reader.exe program (console only, no UI) from the Timecode-Tool installation folder combined with my own batch scripts and FFMPEG.

Thanks Noki. Nothing back from Deity by the way.

This tool works great. In fact, much simpler than with the Tentacle Time Code tool. And it doesn't require any conversions....it fixes the timecode in the original file if you want, so is pretty much instant. Also it now allows me to use 10-bit files from my GH5 and GH6. Crazy that Tentacle haven't resolved this issue with their own tools....especially after how much their systems cost.
