audio/video out of sync

Captured a umatic tape to mpg2 using pinnacle moviebox usb. When I play the tape in, for example, windoze media player, audio/video sync is fine for the entire 30 minute clip.

If you open it in vegas, the sync is off and gets progressively worse the closer to the end of the clip, off by a lot, maybe a minute by the end of the 30 minutes.

1.5 GHz P4 with 1 GByte RAM, fast dedicated disk w/plenty of space. XP pro.

This is a major problem and will create hours of work to try to fix, and then I won't trust vegas not to mess it up again.

any help anyone?

I belive it's been said by someone on the forum that the sync is an mpeg thing. I can think of 2 ways to fix it.

1) Use a program like TEMGenc to convert it to an AVI.

2) It the audio/video are different lengths, try stretching the shorter one to the longer one, or vice versa.

One of those 2 should work. I used #2 to fix some fast video recorded from a VHS tape on EP mode. Worked like a charm!

I had a similar problem.. the solution for me was that Windows Media Player used my Soundblaster live card (fast), and Vegas used my Aardvark Pro-card.. which took longer to start so the movie hung.. Once Vegas used the SBLive it was fine..

Dunno if you're having more than 1 soundcard, but if so it might be it.. you never know.
