Audio & Video Out of Sync

I am having a problem I haven't been able to fix with my Audio and Video being out of sync on capture. I am capturing analog video to a Pinnacle AV/DV PCI card. I have an AMD 1800+ processor, 512MB Ram, a dedicated 120 Gb maxtor HD, a 40GB HD for programs, Lite-On 851S DVDRW. Prior to capture I always defrag, use end-it-all to kill background programs,and enure everything is closed but the Movie Studio Program. Pinnacle 9 captures my video and audio OK (in sync) but I do not like th washed out video quality so I am trying to get Movie Studio to work for me. Any help would me much appreciated.

Are you capturing as .mpeg or .avi? If it's .mpeg try.avi that should do it.

I am capturing .avi. I didn't think I had the computer power to convert directly to .mpeg during capture.

Are you using firewire for the capture? That should be ok, but the other inputs probably need proprietary software.

I am NOT using Firewire. This is an analog capture from the RCA camera outputs to a Pinnacle AV/DV card with RCA inputs and sound inputs through the sound card.

I have the Pinnacle Deluxe AV/DV which I think is the same card as yours but with the blue breakout box. I capture with Studio 8 and then edit in Vegas 4. I’ve never had any sync problems. People who have had sync problems have said that Scenalyzer Live ($39) captures audio and video in perfect sync with the Pinnacle cards. You might want to try that. I didn’t think you could capture analog from the Pinnacle card with Movie Studio. (at least I can’t with Vegas). You can download a trial of Scenalyzer and try it out.

I’m not sure why you say the video looks washed out when capturing with Studio 9 but it does have controls for brightness, contrast, color, and sharpness that can be adjusted live while capturing. You might want to check and make sure these are adjusted properly. Perhaps one of them got pushed too high by mistake. My Pinnacle Deluxe card captures analog with excellent results.

I capture with the Pinnacle DC10plus analog capture card using VirtualDub (a freeware program). It has a setting for keeping the video and audio clocks in sync, and I do not have any out of sync problems at all.

I have also captured successfully using Screenblast, but mostly use VirtualDub.

My DC10plus card came with Studio 8 and I really did love the on-the-fly adjustments you could make to brightness, contrast, etc. during capture.
