Audio vocal and instrumental background splitting

I am creating a karaokie home vcd,
video backgrounds and text effects using cokie cutter has been done already.

my problem is, i want to remove the vocal from the background music....like karaokie vcds...splitting the vocal and instrumental background so that when playing into VCD karaokie players they would be able to select with or without music.

Can i do this in vegas?

thanks for any help.

rommel-

Good thing you didn't ask this on the audio or Soundforge forums...

The answer is no. Refer to this KB article:

There is no such software as a Vocal Remover. The ones that claim to use a trick of inverting the phase of one of the channels. Since most vocals on pop songs are in the center of the Stereo spectrum, by inverting the phase, you cancel out the vocal parts. You also cancel anything else that is centered and only the instruments that are panned left or right remain.

You can do this is Vegas. Put a stereo song on two tracks. On one, enable the left channel only, on the other enable the right channel only. Then Invert the phase on one of them.
