It's a bit laborious to do with Vegas, but it can be done. In this link look at the sixth answer:

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/sidechain-aka-key-in-compression-impossible--83449/#ca488703

Here I made a wordless video showing how it's done:

Personally I do it more direct with Reaper or Audition. It is still a regrettable and inexplicable lack in Vegas when almost all editor programs have it.

Unfortunately, this is a complicated and long process.
At the same time, I work with a single raw speech channel and 1-6 music channels.
At the same time, I have to show it to my colleagues after I find out.
There's no way I can explain this to them :)

db Audioware's side-chain comp is one of the very few that supports side-chain comp'ing internally on an app that does not natively have it.
Creating volume envelops on the music tracks or sub-master is better IMO. It really does take very the way Vegas can create the envelope.points with one or two clicks

It is still a regrettable and inexplicable lack in Vegas when almost all editor programs have it.

I had requested side-chain support many times when Vegas was initially released by Sonic Foundry.. then Sony, but it did not happen and likely will not with Magix either. Many audio folks prefer Reaper.. which was initially inspired by Vegas.

I know. I've been reading you on the forum for many years. Sometimes it seems that it is a lost crusade. Maybe one day...

Yes. That's why I was telling you that I use Reaper or Audition, but I hate having to leave Vegas to do this.
