Auto Audio Sync Test (built-in)

Vegas21_user wrote on 4/23/2024, 1:04 AM

I don't know if this post belongs in the "audio" or "video" section (I synchronize sound on movie clips, so I don't really know...)

I work a lot in Vegas and have for many years. As I switched to the latest version, I eagerly checked out its newest features. One of the functions is automatic sound synchronization, this is an option built into the program.

Unfortunately it never works. My camera clips are professionally recorded and have great sound. All my life I have been syncing them automatically without any problems using the well-known "PlurarEyes" plugin. After switching to the latest version of Vegas, I wanted to test it and the results exceeded my worst expectations.

First of all - this option COMPLETELY does not work with multiple clips.Secondly, the waiting time for synchronization is ridiculous.

Instead of writing how much slower Vegas is, I prepared a surprise for you and showed everything (including commentary) in this video:

I'm not sure this is even properly a feature. It looks like something still in development that sort of works sometimes.

I also use PluralEyes and while there are other alternatives including AudioAlign and a tool in HOS, I hope multicam and audio syncing in VEGAS are redeveloped and modernized. I remember using Final Cut X 10 years ago and for simple syncing it did a great job by itself (for complex ones PluralEyes helped there too).

I agree that the audio sync feature that is native to VEGAS is poor (probably beyond poor). It is high on our priority list to fix/replace. The team really has not had an audio engineer working on the audio side of VEGAS until just a little over a year ago, and since then our audio expert has been very busy fixing bugs, adding badly missing features and enhancing the overall audio side experience for users. He is just one person, so not everything is able to be worked on at once.

I believe we will have an improved multi-cam audio sync experience some time this year, hopefully. It seems the VEGAS user base has made increasing noise about this over the last several months especially as PluralEyes is now in maintenance mode over at Maxon and no longer being developed or updated.

Plurar-eyes has stopped supporting and probably even selling its product.

Plurar-Eyes doesn't even work in Vegas 21. So I'm not surprised that the community is eager for a built-in solution to speed up work with audio synchronization. But after what I saw in the test, it will not work.

PluralEyes works well in VP 21, I just used it on a project. As stated it is in maintenance mode so doesn't have a future with Maxon.

Oh right, you are using that newer version of PluralEyes where you have that dedicated separate window for that (Software run separately, then export...)

Similar test I did for "Speech to text AI" feature. They gave this feature to all Vegas users (365 was before).
Autosync is not working at all.
Speech to text is working but very poorly. Not for professional use.
Maybe in english language it works. But works not so well in my native language. I had to check every third event because there was an error or I preferred different timing.

PluralEyes works perfectly well in Vegas Pro 21, very fast with no issues. It's what i use. I use the old version from Red Giant Shooter Suite 13,version 4.1.8...... Runs lightning speed and more accurate than the newer version from Maxon's messy incorporations.
