Auto Ripple doesn't work on multiple clips

debojitacharjee wrote on 12/27/2023, 12:17 AM

I tried to delete multiple clips at once with "Auto Ripple" turned ON. But after deleting the clips, I get a gap between the remaining clips on the timeline. Only the first two clips are joined but the remaining clips are left with gaps.

Please check the screenshots as an example.

How can I make all the clips join after deleting the previous clips?

@debojitacharjee - We can't, and much like your other post, regarding Transition Numbers, a Script was designed by Edward Troxel to do just this Gap Removal, and many more things too!

So, from this:

To this in ONE click!:

This is why Scripting was introduced. Many many of us use these scripts. If youre not employing Scritping tools then you are missing out on your VP investment. Up to you.

Now, somebody is gonna contradict me 😉.

Yup, I did. I got a Nudge from @DMT3, thank you, and yes there is a Close Gaps option in VP20 and VP21:

It's a Right Click and I got this Drop Down.

I think the demand of OP is reasonable. I made a similar suggestion several years ago.

@lan-mLMC - I agree. But in the meantime, there are some solutions.

Whether a "demand" is reasonable or not, is no indication of its practicality for implementation.

@debojitacharjee There's an internal preference item that may help close up the gaps when you delete multiple clips with auto ripple on. Shift > Options > Internal > Use New Event Delete Ripple Logic. Change that to FALSE. I don't know what the caveat is by changing this option. Don't know the old logic or the new logic, either.

@Robert Johnston - I just tried the Internal Preferences and I couldn't get the same successful results as I can with Close Gaps and the Excalibur Script.

@relaxvideo - Well, yes the Gaps are removed but I also get Events being deleted between areas of Gap.

Using this feature would be easier than using scripts. Please show the steps on removing the gaps on VP20.

What you mean by "Events being deleted between areas of Gap"? How can there be any event in the gaps?

I suggest you use one of the alternative options provided. I can’t assist anything further.

@debojitacharjee There are some Ripple options that affect what gets deleted and rippled on other tracks.
