There is a "stop capture on dropped frames" option. That might do the trick. However, if any dropped frames are encountered before the end of what you want to capture, the capture will stop there.

Do you have scene detection on? I always capture with that option set. What happens then is that VidCap closes each .avi file when the end of a clip is seen, and starts a new file if more video follows. The effect is that, even though the tape keeps rolling and it looks like VidCap is busy capturing, nothing is saved after the last clip is over.
