I just wanted to throw this out there in case no one else had thought about it. I've been trying to figure out a way to select a bunch of files and automatically said the tape name option. It seems like something that Vegas should already have built into it, but it doesn't.

I created smart bins for all of my camera sources. I copied the desired tape name, then I used a macro recording program to automate the key sequences of down arrow, f2, ctrl+v, enter. That just goes down the entire smart bin, item by item.

The program that I am using is called https://sourceforge.net/projects/minimousemacro/Mini Mouse Macro. It's a free stand alone application from Sourceforge. The only thing that I don't like about it is that it's slow (15-20 seconds per item). Given that one of my smart bins has around 3000 pictures and videos, it will take most of the day just to do one camera. But, it's a lot less work than doing it by hand.
