Automate to Timeline

Like many others I finally got fed up with Premiere. I just purchased Vegas Video 3.0 LE, and plan to buy 4.0 as soon as it is out.

My most common project is photo/video montages for Weddings or 50th anniversaries and such. Premiere had a nice feature that I could select a group of clips and insert them all on the timeline with a default transition betwean each clip. I could specify the overlap time of each transition.

Does VV have a similar ability? For this type of project it saves a lot of time to have all the transitions and clips already in place, and then just go through and apply some panning to the still images.

Is the VV file text editable? I know a few editors out there allow you to edit the actual text description of your project. If so, I could write a simple perl script to create exactly what I want and then just open that up in Vegas. That would make timing the still images to the music track easy as well.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Options/Preferences/Edit---read the selections carefully it pretty much covers what you want to do. I am not sure about your second question.

I suppose you could try to generate an EDL with any application you feel fit for the task, then import it in vegas. The solution someone suggested in this forum is to build a .veg file with transitions, naming the pictures in a standardized way pic001, pic002...., and substituting media for each new client.

That didn't work in Premiere either because you'd have to program all your moves over again. Better to make a template with generic pans/zooms. Then you just have to review/tweak them.

I think VV3 has the ability to track the beat of the music, but I never use it. But it's easy to get a group of pics to fit a song by (G)rouping them and using ctrl-left-drag.
