Automatic crossfades button necessesary?

Johnbl's problem that went away when he discovered that his automatic crossfades button was not on, leads me to wonder if this toolbar button is really necessesary.*

Anyone USE this button? IOTW, when do you want to have automatic crossfades off?

*Of course, it can easily be removed from the toolbar with Options>Customize toolbar.

I haven't used it yet. The default for me is for plain cuts unless I load a group of clips (more than one) to the timline, then I've got it set to automatically add a crossfade. That's because the way I edit, I normally bring one clip to the timeline at a time and size it there (I don't use the trimmer). Exception is when I do a slide show, I'll bring in a number of stills. Having the default set to automatic crossfade when multiple clips are added meets my need. So, I don't use the button.
