does anyone know how to make the same crossfade effect for every image in a slide show, instead of crossfading it after every image? there must ba way to do this. does anyone know?
1. Turn Ripple Edits off and Automatic Crossfade on
2. Switch to Selection tool (Edit-->Editing Tool-->Selection)
3. Select all the pictures and create a New Group (right click -> Group> Create New)
4. Copy the Group (right click --> Copy)
5. Position the cursor where you want the transition between photo 1 and 2
6. Paste the Group. Finished.
This is one of the few features that Pinnacle Studio has that MS doesn't; one that I actually miss: the ability to create a transition (of any complexity - at least to the limit of S8's capabilities) between two clips, and then automatically insert that transition between all the remaining clips. Ripple Transition, I think.
I actually used this the other night when I had 90+ photos that I wanted a fade out/fade in (as opposed to a cross-fade dissolve) between each photo.
Of course, I then had to render to avi....which always seemed to be a crapshoot with S8, but usually worked okay for me.
I do a lot of slideshows, and Movie Studio 3 really misses the ball. I actually bought it just for the pan and zoom, which Ulead's VideoStudio 7 lacks. VS8 does it (I downloaded the trial). You optionally get one "middle" keyframe. It makes a curve out of your three keyframes and I found it difficult to stay on the picture because the "curve" overshoots. Anyhow, I've been bringing my slideshows into VS7 to "split by scene" because it will automatically add the transition of my choice. Unfortunately, that is not perfect, because VS7 doesn't allow saving of a customized transition and use that as the default, so I must change each one individually. I like VS' "Page Turn" so much better than the one in Movie Studio, but by default, the back of the page is green and it turns from lower left to upper right, and I want the back to be black and turn from lower right to upper left. So pretty much, it makes me crazy. I think I am going to spring for Vegas, because it has keyframes (VS7 actually has, also) and scripting support, which I will use. I haven't tried Pinnacle Studio, I understand the interface is great. I was going to buy that based upon the PC Magazine review, but when I read reviews by users, I decided against it.

The question of why magazines always give Studio such glowing reviews is one of life's great unsolved mysteries!
