AUX busses in Vegas?

Folks -

This is potentially a painfully stupid question. I use other audio software (Cubase SX and Sonar 3) that allow for two different audio effect routing options:

1) Insert - applied in-line to the signal, the amount usually controlled by wet/dry mix

2) Aux sends - where each channel can send a portion of their signal to a separate bus that contains an effect or effects. This is usually much more useful for global effects (like reverb), and can considerably reduce processor load by using only one instance of an effect. It can also lend itself to more consistency, as the audio is being passed through the same effect settings, regardless of channel.

I haven't seen AUX SEND or AUX BUSS functionality in Vegas. Am I missing something obvious?

Thanks!

Pete

You are indeed missing both. Vegas has buses and aux sends/returns. And of course channel inserts.

I hate to say it, but RTFM!

_Ben, I'm sure that RFTM means, "Read the Funny Manual," 'cause we're all so nice in this forum. ;-)

Plyall - Within Vegas, select "Insert" and you'll see an item called, "Audio Bus." The program adds an additional bus track in the bottom screen next to your preview (depending on how your system UI is configured).

I probably deserved this... while I have read the Spot (Vegas 4) book, and bought the FAAST and Gary Kleiner DVD's, I rarely crack the PDF files. Oh - and I am a registered user.

Also - I am an ex-Unix developer from the heydey of Unix, so I sure as heck know what RTFM means ;^}

I did follow Chanimal's tip (I just needed a little nudge) and found that once you insert another buss that you can drop down on an audio channel PAN control and get at a buss send. This seems awkward - why can't the aux/buss send be visible at the same time as the pan control?

Not to sound whiney, but for all those that beast-beat about the fabulous audio capabilities of Vegas, I don't feel the mixer model is nearly as comprehensive as those in Cubase SX or Sonar (and I have four physical mixers here now, and have owned many others, so I know how an audio mixer should look and feel). Don't get me wrong - as a fledgling video geek I love Vegas, and I'm still learning it day by day. it's just that my roots are in audio.
