AVC codec MC vs Sony CPU utilization

Regards to all,

Creating MP4 from 1440x1080 15Mbs m2ts files with MainConcept and Sony, I noticed that MC takes more time than Sony: about 4 minutes of MC rendering 1 minute clip vs ~2:30 using Sony. CPU utilization peaks 80% on 65% average for MainConcept and stays in low 20% for Sony. Result files looks pretty much the same to me on PC screen. Did anyone have similar experience? Why so lower utilization and faster result for Sony codec?

Thank you

Maybe because you're using the nVidia GPU encoding acceleration that was introduced on version 10, for Sony AVC?

Personally, I still prefer Main Concept, because it has VBR support. Better quality when you use VBR.

My video card does not have CUDA, so it should not render on GPU.

Eugenia, how do you set MC VBR for source with CBR? - Thank you

You set the average and maximum bitrate on the bottom of the MC video tab, after you clicked "custom". For 1080p, I usually use 12 mbps average, and 24 mbps max.
