AVC .MOV Video is not deblocked in Vegas 14 build 201 [SOLVED]

gerdagerd wrote on 12/3/2016, 6:54 AM

Video files that are looking normal in vegas 13, are looking horribly blocky and artifacted in vegas 14. I am using build 201.
Clearly, deblocking is somehow disabled for me.

This happens when I import a Vegas 13 project, as well as when I import the file by itself.
It happens on H.264 files from the canon s100 camera.
In Vegas 13 it helps to change preview quality to "best". This does not help in Vegas 14.

Render quality is affected as well. This makes resulting Renders unusable.

Please advise / fix.

Thank you Nick.

Your post has helped me to narrow it down to my Canon S100 footage. Panasonic GH2 works fine.
The problem still persists, though.

The important thing to notice is: both work fine in Vegas 13. Quicktime is installed and all is well in that regard.
Quote from your post: "MOV files such as those containing H.264 (AVC) video will also be read natively by VEGAS."

Seems to me that it is a bug in Vegas 14. Would you not agree?

Tested with DJI Osmo's footage. (AVC+AAC), VP14 uses compoundplug.dll to read it.

I can choose container between MP4 or MOV, and I use MOV.

Can't really answer that with the info given. Apologies for the impersonal cut and paste, but to help us help you, please:

  • Tell us how your source media was generated (i.e. what camera or program) and what format/codec was used (if you know).
  • Post the MediaInfo text report of your source media.
  • Post the VEGAS Files Propertes of your source media (the MediaInfo guide linked above shows you how).
  • If the media is not too large you could post a link to a sample of it, for example on Google Drive or in your Dropbox "Public" folder.
  • Consider submitting a support request, including as much detailed information about the problem as you can.

My eyes are not that good as they were before but I don't see blocs or artifarcts in Vegas Pro 14.
I see no difference between Vegas 13 and Vegas 14.
See both screenshots with the properties shown at the preview window

Vegas 13

Vegas 14

The only unusual thing I saw was a dirty window now and than. 😉

I'm not seeing any difference either (VP13 build 453 vs VP14 build 201). The sky is quite noisy because of low light so that is likely to cause pixellation in your renders.

thanks guys, thanks cornico for the screenshot. there is no blocking with your version. are you at build 201 as well? does anyone have another suggestion as to what might cause this error as seen in my screenshot, compared to cornico's?

gerdagerd wrote on 12/3/2016, 12:37 PM

okay, reinstall seems to have fixed it, I'll be back if it comes up again! :-D thanks guys :)
