AVC Player

Hi all,
I've just made a 2 title Blu-ray using DVDA 5 & Imgburn (which is excellent).

Originally, using Movie Studio Platinum 12, rendered as Mainconcept 1920x1080 50i 25mbps stream, the 2 titles together exceeded the 25Gb capacity of the disc & DVDA wouldn't progress to make the disc.

I couldn't find how to reduce the bit rate on the 2nd. title (I didn't want to reduce it on the 1st.) so I experimented with other settings & when rendered as Sony AVCHD 1920x1080 50i the size of the rendered file was just over half of the original file size & fitted on the disc wonderfully. The quality of the Blu-ray is also much better than Mainconcept.

This is the way to render in future I thought.

Trouble is, I often need to play the videos on the PC and I can't find anything that will play the resulting .AVC file. Can anyone recommend a player? (preferably free - I'm a Yorkshireman!!!)

I've tried WMP and VLC (which I don't find is anywhere near as good as people suggest) and also downloaded a few others but none play it.

I realise this might be outside the remit of this thread but can't think of anywhere else to post.

If anyone can help I'd be really grateful.
Many thanks,
Steve.

For the BluRay, you rendered a Transport Stream.
For efficient software playback, you will also need to render a separate playback stream (mp4 or something).

Two purposes, two renders.

Steve, you could try Media Player Classic Home Cinema (http://mpc-hc.org/). It's free, even to a Yorkshireman.

Edit: On checking I find it won't play .avc but Nero Showtime will but doesn't play the audio. Suggestion - if you don't want to do a second render to get a playback stream you could possibly extract the m2ts files from your disc or iso image and play those on your pc.

Hi Eric & Musicvid,
Thanks for your replies, much appreciated.
Since my original post I've been delving into some programs that have been hiding in the depths of my PC for sometime and have found that an old version of Cyberlink which I somehow acquired (I know I didn't pay for it! - I think it came bundled with the PC) will play the AVC file. I don't like Cyberlink, which is why I'd forgotten about it, but it's come up trumps here.
Thanks again both of you for your efforts,
Steve.

Isn't the whole point of .avc that it's an elemental stream, i.e. no audio?

Yes, but surprisingly Media Player Home Cinema when playing a M2V Video Stream file finds the W64 audio stream file so you get the audio.
