As I understand it XP cannot, at least natively, read the files on a DVD formated as a Blu-Ray playable AVCHD disk. I also understand that Vista can.
But don't quote me on this. I'm looking for confirmation.
This is an issue for me since I am backing up my CX7 files to standard DVDs with a Sony VRD-MC5. These AVCHD DVDs are playable, though not automatically, on a PS3. This is a very convenient scheme since you have a playable archive.
I also backup to my hard disk using a straight file copy from the CX7 Memory Stick. These files are readable in XP and they are what I use for editing. So I have two independent backups. One is readable in XP and one is not.
But if I lose the hard disk copy I apparently will not be able to retrieve the data until I upgrade to Vista, something I am not anxious to do. So I'm hoping that some clever teenager out there with good software skills has written the utility that will let me read my AVCHD disk in XP.
Has anyone seen the teenager or otherwise found a solution to this problem?
