AVCHD may have claimed another soul

After a weekend of humbling mental turmoil, I have made the decision to give file based video recording a go. Against my own steadfast position on Standard Def, I owe it to myself to elevate my game.
The research I did made me realize that HD cameras vary as much as any product dealing with digital technology.
Have to be careful because I noticed that just because the "Box" says HD doesn't always mean what you think it means.
I'm not throwing away my Standard Def camera just yet because I want it for B footage and such that may not require pristine details.
I'm hoping the two formats won't present me with too many tech problems in my work flow.. I rather use my energy on actually editing what I shoot.
AVCHD may have claimed another soul.

Once you go HD you will not want to touch SD again.

It looks like your workstation has the specs to edit HD so you should be good to go!

I've gone from DV to HDV to FullHD with a CineAlta camera.
Having full manual control of every image parameter plus being able to shoot progressive is dangerously seductive. The extra resolution is of almost secondary importance.
As for how the image is recorded and codecs I've found the long GOP mpeg-2 35Mbps codec that Sony use in the PMW series of cameras very easy to edit with compared to AVCHD. I have mixed AVCHD, DV and that codec on the one T/L without drama though, it's jus that Vegas seems happier with the XDCAM codec than the AVCHD / H.264 codecs and the image can hold up better especially when encoding to mpeg-2 for DVD.

I am hoping that with this format transition I'm doing I don't run in to a new set of technical issues that will require a whole new mind-set.
How ever I will face the challenge.

I rather suspect the technical possibilities will be more of a challenge than the technical issues.

Clearly the technical issues can be addressed, there's an existing industry that's solved them all long ago.
It's one's own creativity being challenged by having a bigger palette to work with can be the real issue.

That's a direct hit!
Ironic though..Once I decided to go HD, I hear that AVCHD may not be the best in Sony Pro 12.
I may be puttin' more into it than I should.

I have several cameras that produce AVCHD files (Sony NX5, etc) and they work fine in both Vegas 12 and 13.

My primary working codec right now can be said AVCHD, and it had already became 'our standard'.

It has weakness of course when compared to other hi-end codecs preferred, but considering my needs, I felt ok with it.

Well after you shoot AVCHD you realise it’s the same old bow and arrow except the bow is getting smaller but the arrow is geflippt huge, much easier to hit stuff..enjoy.
