avchd render problem

i have a sony hdr sr12 and am trying to render as a single file the output from the 16 gb card. This loads on to the pc as about 60 mts files. I tried rendering the lot in one go and the pc kept crashing. I have successfully rendered them in batches of 5 at a time as avchd 1920x1080 pal 5.1 surround mts files. I want to join the 12 files as one using this same template so that the result most resembles their original camera format. When I start rendering the joined files it seems to trying to re-render them which i don't understand as surely i am not changing anything and whey don't need to be compressed ? I suspect the pc will hang again. Am i missing something here?

VMS can render to same format as media without recompression - this works, however, not for all formats.

I have not found anything about VMS - but the "Full Vegas" does this for DV AVI, DV MXF, IMX MXF (not 24p), HD MXF and HDV according to the manual.

I use it much for m2t files (HDV 720-30p) where it just works prefectly.

I have had problems like yours (crash) with AVCHD files from some cameras - and not from others - obviously the standard is not yet quite followed by all camera suppliers.

Thanks for the reply. From what you say VMS will not render without recompression for AVCHD. That being the case would it be better to render it to another format which won't lead to picture deterioration and preserves the 5.1 surround sound, or is avchd the only format that provides that. I see that full vegas doesn't provide for no recompression for avchd either.
