.avi Captured with other Applications

Vegas 8.0c doesn't recognize some .avi files that I captured with other applications.

How do I determine what codec the other application used, - then how would I get Vegas to use that codec ?

I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I wasn't sure what keywords to search for.

Use MediaInfo or Gspot, both are free.

Find it on the internet, download it, and install it.
If Vegas does not recognize the new codec, try another source.

Onr of the most common AVI capture codecs that does not come packed with Vegas is called MJPEG (not to be confused with MPEG. They are two different things). There are others.
