AVI File - No Picture Just Sound

Ethan417 wrote on 8/22/2005, 6:09 PM
I have an older camcorder that i use a Plextor Convertex M402U to capture video.
As it is not a firewire box (i have limited funds) i can capture it using Roxio 7.5

The video is captured and saved as an AVi file and i can play and view the file in Roxio - But when i import it into Vegas 6.0 - all i get is the sound track.

Does anyone have an idea what's going on?

go to www.google.com type in gspot as your search term.

Basically gspot will examine your AVI file and tell you what audio/video codec was used to encode the info in it.

Just in case you are reluctant to type "GSPOT" into google..... here is the link to the site that has the gspot utility.

It's possible that your Plextor box is saving the AVI in MJPEG format (common in digital still cameras).
Try installing the codec from Edward Troxel's site and see if it helps.

The Plextor M402U captures in DivX, MPEG-4, MPEG-1/Video CD and MPEG-2/DVD formats. Go to www.divx.com and get their free decoder.

You're welcome Ethan. Glad to see it finally got resolved.
And thanks to the other posters for the Gspot suggestion too.
