.AVI FILES GLITCH!!!!

Farrow Inc. wrote on 2/21/2011, 1:35 PM
I purchased the Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum software, version 10.0, Build 179 fall of 2010.

I have tried using in multiple times on 3 separate computers, all running on Windows 7. I even tried uninstalling and re-installing the software.

My problem?

I can't import, edit, play, move, etc any .avi files. Each time I try, the software freezes and I have to hard boot the computer to try again.

Nothing has worked. I have been forced to revert back to Version 8, Build 122, that runs on Windows XP. I even had to create an XP shell on my Windows 7 computers to do this.

I love this program, but version 10 is NOT working. I spent good money on a product that does not work.

I need a solution OR I need a refund.

Posting several times with the same rant accomplishes nothing, Farrow. Especially since nobody on this site works for Sony and we can't help you get a refund.

The way to contact Sony is to use the Contact address listed under About Us!

We don't appreciate your double-postings. Only post once for each problem.

As for the AVI problem, simply download the codec for Windows. If that AVI file is XViD for example, you must find online and download and install the Windows XViD codec. You just need to find what kind of AVI that is. We can't know this for you. You're the one with the files.

You're trying to import DV files through firewire aren't you? Windows 7 can have huge problems doing this. Your first step in trying to solve the problems is to load legacy firewire drivers and see if that works (Google how). Next if that doesn't work you have on-board firewire, you need to look for a driver that will do work. Often the only thing that does work is to install a PCI firewire card (around $10). There's nothing wrong with the software. If you'd tried to do the same thing with Windows Movie Maker, the same thing would have happened. If you'd thought about it, you could have tried that and worked out for yourself where the problem was.

It's video from a Flip camera. The conversation should be continued in this thread:

[THREAD CLOSED] (as it were)

We have used fire wire in the past to upload video, but all of the videos and .avi files in question here are sitting on the portable hard drive, stored from a year ago or more.

These same .avi video files were used in the old version 8 that we used to use, and they worked fine. Now, in the new version, they freeze the computer.

Again, use the other thread to continue this discussion.
