AVI files not recognised

Vegas Pro 9 will not reconise the AVI files from my camera traps. I''ve tried a number of options to no avail.
I've down loaded "Gspot" which tells me the files are MJPEG & that I have the correct codec installed !
Yet, I can still not add these files to the Project Media.
I can open & play the files in movie Maker & also play them with Quick player, Media player & the like.
I've searched the forum & the web for remedies as well as downloading a lot of so called fixes to no avail.

Anyone have any ideas where I'm going wrong please?

Update.
If I render each clip in Movie Maker I can then open the clip in Pro 9.
Clips are either one minute or thirty seconds long so it is a long drawn out operation. There could be well over 500 clips to edit by the time I collect the cameras!

Post your camera make and model.
Post the details from GSpot or MediaInfo.
Upload a short camera clip somewhere (MediaFire, for example).

In the meantime, here's some interesting reading on point-and-shoot cameras and Vegas.

Don't download and install any "codec packs." They will mess you up to no end.

Unfortunately, GSpot (splendid program though it is) can be a bit misleading here. When GSpot tells you that the correct codec is installed on your system what it means is that there is a suitable codec of some kind on your system. Unfortunately there are more than one kind of codec and Vegas can only use the VFW (Video for Windows) kind of codec - other kinds of codec (for example DirectShow) cannot be used by Vegas.

Open up GSpot and go to System|List Codecs and Other Filters. This will create a tabular view of all the codecs, filters, etc, on your sytem. Click on the Format column to order the table by this column. Now scroll down until you reach the entry or entries for MJPG (in the format column). I am guessing that you will find one or more entries for MJPG with DSH in the Type column, but not an entry for MJPG with VFW in the type column. If so then that is the reason for your problem - you have a DirectShow MJPG codec (which Vegas can't use) but not a VFW MJPG codec (which Vegas needs). The solution is to install a VFW MJPG codec. There are several around - I use a free one from Matrox, but there are others, both free and paid for, available.
