AVI Format - audio only imports

Hi,
I have been sent a video (filmed on a Fujifilm Finepix S5800) that appears to be an AVI format but when importing in to Sony Vegas Movie Studio 9, only the audio imports. I've checked the video via the gspot codec software to see what file it really is and it comes up as a 'motion jpeg' - so it looks like its a jpeg in an AVI wrapper.

I understand that SVMS 9 & 10 have the ability to import & edit the 'motion jpeg' format (& AVI), so any thoughts / suggestions please as to why my SVMS 9 only imports the audio?

MJPEG support in VMS 9 is limited to Quicktime .mov files, afaik.
Download and install the Mainconcept Demo codec here (it doesn't expire):

Musicvid, just an update to say problem solved. I downloaded the MainConcept codec and voila! the avi videos import correctly.

I have a question - you say it places a watermark if you encode with it. I'm not too sure what you mean by 'encode'? I did a test render and no watermark and therefore I presume one won't appear when burned to dvd either. That's my main concern.

If you import MJPEG AVI using the MC demo, which is what you're doing, and render to anything else (like MPEG-2), there is no watermark.

If you render a video to MC MJPEG AVI, a small watermark is placed on the top of the video, which can easily be cropped off. Purchasing the codec eliminates the watermark.

BTW, the trial doesn't expire.

That's great - thanks Musicvid. I render all my videos to MPEG2 for burning to disc via DVD Architect. I can't see why I would ever want to render to an MPEG AVI format so its all good, but as you say the watermark could be easily cropped should the need ever arise.
