AVI to .Mov probs

Anybody got any advice for me on getting a QT movie to work properly?.
I am exporting my movie clips to AVI format and then importing into QT Pro 6.3.
The movies encode with good results but invariably there is no audio and the playback is very jerky and usually stops all together.
It's driving me MAD hours of wasted time.
Has anyone had this problem? I had an inclination that the audio has to be separate.
Any suggestions greatly received.

How do they play in another player?

Sounds to me like QT player is trippin. Maybe you should use a different means of encoding to .mov. Do you have anything else that could encode? CLEANER or maybe even export from VEGAS as QT.

Does your AVI play fine before you encode with QT? If so, then that tells you the culprit is QT. If your rendered AVI doesn't play correctly then that would be VEGAS.

Like BillyBoy asked... Have you tried to play it in other media players?

Let me see if I understand you correctly. You are exporting video and audio as an AVI file. It doesn't play back smoothly in QT Pro 6.3 until you export it from QT Pro as a .mov file? Thus you are getting the results you want, but going through a lot of frustration to get there?

Is that what you mean?

You might be trying to encode at too high bitrate for your computer.
