In addition, the DVDA features listed graphical subtitles and random playback (which fits in with scripting, I suppose).

AVID buys......?

I almost fainted!
(I still feel a bit light-headed)

As long as they keep the interface, timeline, and trimmer roughly the same... I'd be all for it!

With the XDCAM and Aja support, it seems clear they are targeting some portion of the high-end segments (or protecting future market share against competitors). Seems they could continue this strategy if they add 10-bit support and perhaps a few other HD video camera formats (like the new SI-1920HDVR).

Workflow improvements.. What if they included a full version of Cineform's HD Connect? They wouldn't want to say so until it hits the market. None of us would have upgraded to V3 back in June.

Improved HD playback: does this mean .m2t or would it include CFDI? I hope it includes all HD playback..

It mentioned support for a 5.1 Sony video camera. Probably the new consumer level camera, which (I don't know) might have the audio encoded in some way that isn't recognized by Vegas 6.

Boy, am I glad I'm not a software engineer!

"Stop adding new features! Fix the basic editing tools!" some of us shout!

"That's it? No new features? I'm leaving!" others of us moan.

"Why can't they port it to a Mac/Linux/BeOs/PSP?" a few of us whine.

"Why can't they make it more like Avid/FCP/Premiere/Liquid/After Effects?"

"Make it cheaper, in fact, make it free!"
"Make it more expensive, so professionals take it seriously!"

And all over a vague and incomplete preview press release that's really meant to stir up some excitement and chatter, rather than provide any real information.

PSP!? That would be a dream come true...

and it's Sony so it's probably going to happen... can't wait!

"Flexible window layout/docking options (preview window can be positioned above timeline)"

Either you're joking or that's very poorly written. That feature has been in Vegas as long as I can remember. Now, if they switched the entire Vegas layout to the kind of interface new adobe products use (like audition 2, premier pro 2), then I might be impressed, but if they simply made it easier to switch the layout/docking options and called that a new feature, it's false advertisement up the wazoo. It's not really a feature, they just .... gah. I hope it was all a joke.

That's exactly what they're saying you'll be able to do, though it'll be an option, not a requirement.

Actually, you can already do this, but it's hidden under a "secret" Preferences tab because some of the other "secret" preferences are not for the timid. At any rate, go to Options, hold down your Shift key and select Preferences. Secret stuff is on a tab labeled Internal. You want the option called Frame Dock at Top.

The feature is unsupported and needs a few tweaks to really work right. Vegas isn't meant to have the preview up top.

One main problem with that layout is that it puts a bunch of tabs at the bottom of other windows that's get top-mounted. When you drag things across those tabs it causes them to activate. Not good, and not intended.

So there was work to be done to make it official, but on it's own it doesn't sound like much to crow about.
