avoid squished image in mpg-2?

Hello.

I'm rendering a video in 4:3 aspect ratio in mpg-2, and the video images are slightly "squished" vertically, compared to the preview window, or if I render in avi.

Is there a setting I can activate to avoid this? I would rather have the sides of the screen cut off slightly than have this verticle compressed look that makes everyone's heads look long and thin.

Is the source video 16:9 by any chance?
If so you really should be encoding it as 16:9 and making a 16:9 DVD.
The player should take care of it from then on, if it's setup correctly.

No, the source video is not 16:9.

Even when rendering, the preview window looks fine, but when fully rendered, the aspect ratio appears more squarish that the 4:3 (abeit not a perfect square), and the images are squished lenghth-wise to compensate in the reduced space.

Again, when rendered in avi., it looks as it should. It's just a problem when rendering mpg-2.

so which mpeg-2 template / settings are you using?

I'm pretty much using the default settings from the NTSC for DVD Architect template.

The "squished" compression of the image is small, but noticeable.

Whne you preview the footage in the Vegas preview window do you have Simulate Device Aspect turned ON?

R Click in the preview window to check.
