BUG Magic Bullet Film Looks - NO HD REZ

I had another message in here but before I posted I did a test and I found a bug. Anyone with access to an HD file can repro. (But you can also repro another way - see at the end of this all)

This is actually part bug and part "Magic Bullet Movie Looks" program limits.

1> Start an HD sized project.
2> Put an HD file into it. (720x1280 or bigger)
3> Make sure your preivew is in any resolution "Auto" mode.
3A> Drop "Magic Bullet Movie Looks" Video FX filter onto the media.
3B> Select any of the looks. Preview it out in Vegas or on an external monitor.

All seems ok at this point.

3.1> Variation on the same - at step 2 load up a standard DV sized file. (720x480).
Repeat all steps to 3B. All looks fine still.

4> Now go to the "Draft" resolution preview and change it to "Full".
Output for both HD file and DV/SD file looks fine.

5> Now move up one to "Preview (FULL)" resolution. Now we start to see the bug
(we just have seen it - but we didn't know it)

5A> HD file now shows on screen error saying
Magic Bullet Looks Resolution exceeds 1024 x 1024
5B> DV/SD file still previews fine.

6> Now move up to "Good (FULL)".
6A> HD file - error
6B> DV/SD file previews fine

7> Now move to "Best (FULL)"
7A> HD File - error
7B> DV/SD file still previews fine.

Ok - now if this isn't enough of a bug - lets push the limit.

8> Render with any of the HD templates.
Say you are just using a DV proxy or just uprezing to HD - so hit render.

8A> First few frames start to render, but crash:
Version 5.0a (Build 134) Exception 0xC0000005 (access violation)

8B> it may seem to render except you have the picture/image:
Magic Bullet Looks Resolution exceeds 1024 x 1024

Ok - Bug? Well how about this - aspect ratio. Obviously to match the right aspect ratio for the uprez you should maybe crop it to 16:9..so do it now. Go back to Draft preview at full - looks fine. But now, like the HD sized file, when you get to "Preview (FULL)" you get the error right away.

Now sound like a Bug? Does to me. Not fully the fault of Vegas however.

For a test I did one more thing as well - another way this could creep up on someone. Work on a normal DV sized project - do all of the filtering and than at output decide to uprez to HD. All seems fine until you hit the render button - starts to render and you see it rendering away, but no picutre, Just the error screen of Magic Bullet Looks Resolution Exceeds 1024 x 1024.

And one more thing why this is a very bad problem - say you are doing the "off line" concept - editing DV files as place holders for HD sized files. There would ne no indication of any problems until you replaced the DV with the HD files. Imagine all your work going down the drain at that point. Hours and days of work. the client very happy with the 'film look' . Now time to output - so you just swap out those DV files for the real HD ones.

And this is not just an MPEG thing - render out with WMV using the HD template. Render out in QT with the Black Magic HD codec. Render out *anything* at HD size. This is a Magic Bullet limitation that they did not document here. The "bug" part is that Vegas allows the previews as long as you are on "Auto" or using a less than 1024 x 1024 media size prior to going to HD size.
