The contest is ON!!

Spot|DSE wrote on 12/18/2002, 12:51 PM
Starting Friday, December 20, running through Sat, December 28th, Sundance Media Group is holding a contest for submitted veg files.
Submit files of cool tricks that can be achieved using Vegas, with NO PURCHASED plugs allowed. If you want to submit a veg that uses plug-ins, they MUST be a free-ware plug like the Debug plugs.
No media may be attached. Veg must be cool on the merits of WHAT it DOES, and not what the media looks like. This way, anyone can win based on talent and creativity, not great camera work. There are plenty of really awesome veg's up there.
Forum discussions/voting will determine the winners.

Prizes are:
1st place, CD ARCHITECT 5.0 from Sonic Foundry. A CD Mastering/burning tool unmatched. Provided by Sonic Foundry
Runners up-(2 of these) Contour Shuttle Pro hardware devices with drivers for Vegas, Sound Forge, Acid, and many other media applications. Provided by PC Nirvana and Sundance Media Group/V.A.S.S.T.

To submit a veg:

This contest is sponsored by

I highly recommend that you put your name and any related information in the FILE|PROPERTIES section of the veg to assure that everyone knows who's file it is.
Good luck!

I have tried to open about 5 of the *.veg files I downloaded from this site. Not a one of them will open! I get an error message saying "the file is most likely corrupted or of an unknown format. A chunk has an illegal length". Any one else have problems with these? I tried opening the following: B & W Line draeing, CG Studious Logo and several others. Clues?

You MUST be running Vegas 3.0c (NOT 3.0 or 3.0a). Version 3.0c changed the file format and those files cannot be opened in the older versions.

Not sure about the voting, though.

thanks. I noticed while there that I have version 3.0a... oops!
FuTz wrote on 12/20/2002, 11:44 AM
It works but I always get this message when I open any of the veg files after download:

Warning: an error occured while loading the project file... bla bla blah
An unexpected error has occured

Is it normal???

You need 3.0c, but even then I get warning messages on some of them. Usually, I just ignore it and it works.
Spot|DSE wrote on 12/20/2002, 12:16 PM
The warning messages are asssociated with some folks not cleaning their media pool before saving the files, or else they've had preview paths assigned elsewhere. We just put the files up, we don't take the time to correct them. Usually you can ignore the error files.

Sorry if this was already covered, but can we submit more than one file to the contest? Also will you provide rendered versions of the effects, or will voters be expected to render them before voting? Obviously some of the effects you currently have on the site run at full framerate in preview, but some (like "Bunch o' boxes") need pre-rendering.

Send in as many as you'd like. The file wins, not the person who wrote the file, if that makes sense.
Since people are voting, not SMG determining the winner, I guess if they want to vote for a file they've not rendered, prerendered, or RAM rendered, that's their call. I'd like to think folks will vote based on what they see, experience, and enjoy with each file. There's no way we could put up rendered versions, don't have the storage.
Luxo wrote on 12/20/2002, 2:11 PM
Okay. I assume we can provide rendered versions ourselves on our own web sites, and link to them from the text description, like some people have already done. Sounds good.

Next time you might consider requiring a small screenshot with submissions, to accompany the text description.

We considered it, but...it's already fairly time-consuming to upload the veg files as soon as they come in, update email and description info, plus anything else that there is with it. It's a free contest. Not really interested in putting a lot of time into it. It's for YOU, not for us. If you want a screen shot, then load the file, park your cursor in the middle, and what you see on the preview screen shows the file to you.
SonyDennis wrote on 12/22/2002, 8:19 PM
Check the "Details" button of the error, most often, it's just complaining about the record path and preview render path not being found. It will just default them to somewhere else.

Folks, make sure to "sweep" your media pool before saving the .veg file so any references to media no longer used are saved with your project, otherwise people will get the dialog asking to look for media.

An amazing mix of veggies available on the Sundance site, loads of contest entries, and some are spectacular! Free for your use, but please be thinking of which ones you like best so you can vote here for the top 3 veggies.
