b300 Render Speed Crash (GoPro 5K 10 bit HEVC)

I have a modest-sized project with GoPro 5K HEVC on the timeline. Renders to 4K begin at a nice 20-30 fps for the first clip on the timeline but as soon as the next clip hits, render speed falls to 1-2 fps. NVENC and MainConcept AVC have the same problem.

If I split the same clip to a new (empty) project with the same fx applied, render speed goes back up to 20-30 fps.

I'll try checking/unchecking the boxes to see if that has any effect (and if I can create a short test project that replicates this).

For now I'm just going to let the render chug along. I need to get this out the door. GPU is 4070.

options --> preferences --> file i/o --> checking the "use experimental HEVC decode" box seems to resolve this

More issues with the new decoder it seems. If you watch decoding activity, I wonder if it falls off after a while.

This helps but doesn't run right. It is running much slower then before with this on and now have problems in other places with lag.

Looks like the CPU is the only thing doing the work and the GPU is just idle.

I also have a 4080 GPU
