No. Each menu is a separate video object. Each video object has its own audio track.

With the DVD Architect system, the music will play continuously only from one screen. As soon as you move from one menu to another, the music starts from the beginning again. I think it would be really good if the same piece of music could play continously as you move through the menus. It is quite irritating to have the same piece piece of music playing for a short time and then going back to the beginning again each time you move from one menu to another.

Do any other DVD authoring packages allow for the continuous playing of one piece of music as you move through the menus? Would it be possible to change DVD Architect to allow this to happen? I think it would be a very popular improvement!

I don't no of any authoring application that will allow that. In fact, I can't recall ever having seen this feature on any commercial DVD either. (On some DVDs, there is audio for the main menu only and the submenus are "silent".)

IMHO it would require the video and audio objects to be managed independently because there is no way for the authoring program or the DVD player to know, at what point in time a menu button is selected (so as to be able to continue with the audio in a new submenu (that is a new video/audio object) at precisely the right time). In other words, it would require the same audio to be played no matter what (sub)menus are on the screen. Do the DVD specifications actually allow something like that? Any clarification would be appreciated.

Like you, I can't imagine how this could possibly be done. Open any VOB that pertains to a menu, and it has its own distinct video and audio content.

I looked at the matrix dvd (revolustions) and it does exactly as whats being mentioned. Each time a different link is selected a new audio track is cut and a new one begins. I think the technique used is there is no music at all in the other selections except in the main menu.

so an idea may be to get the loop right on the main menu and then just use sound effects in all other menus. I tend to think this may be helpful since hearing all kinds of music cut off all the time as one browses the dvd may be painful.

so I'm off to reconstruct my main menu so thatt it loops well in front of the link objects.

cheers everyone.

hope they can figure out a way to get that music track to play over all links...

Not to pick nits ;-) Matrix Revolutions puts a transition in between each menu, which breaks the flow up very nicely, both visually and aurally - then the selected menu can either have new audio music (which "fetures" did as I recall), or just sound effects audio.

Getting the same background music to play across all menus and stay in sync isn't possible. The DVD spec just doesn't allow that.

scott,
I did notice the small green monitor (on/off) effect for the transition.
very nicely done.

I totally agree this breaks up things quite well and very well could make music applicable to other menus.

I tried the same thing as mossman and found my menus too were suffering from music cutoff. But understanding now how it works will make things better and possibly more fun (creating transitions).
