I read from another post, you download a small app called "enditall" and suppose to terminate all applications that are running on the background with EASE!!

To answer your second question. I've had great success using Ulead's MovieFactory 3, which BTW, you can download a trial version which is good for 30 days. Excellent authoring program. A no brainer to use.

You don't need to kill off background processes for editing, and probably not for burning either. If you're having problems with dropped frames during capture I'd start by defragging your disks and only use enditall if you still have problems. That said, it's a good idea to have a look at those background processes to see if they should be there at all.

MovieFactory's a good choice, but if that doesn't do it for you take a look at DVDLab. It's more expensive and harder to get started with, but it's also more powerful and more flexible.

Well, definitely do turn off your virus protection during capture and output.

And, if you're still getting dropped frames, try some of these suggestions:

Just want to say thanks for all the info concerning my questions. I am pretty new at computing and brand new to editing and DVDs.I printed the post that grisetti sent me to on "tweaks for drop free captures" and will nail it to the wall for reference until I get it all figured out. If anybody needs info about excavating & septic tanks I can fill you in but I'll keep reading thease posts and picking your brains concerning this stuff. While I have your attention, I've been reading in another forum about using Nero for burning backups. Is nero anything like Ulead movie factory or is it strictly for burning backups. Nero's primarily cd / dvd burning software that knows about the different formats required for data, audio and video. Ulead Movie Factory is a DVD authoring program that can write the finished product to a dvd. The Nero web site was talking about adding video editing and authoring tools a while back, but I can't find anything on there now.

Just wondering, can I set up a new user account in XP to load up only the programs I want?

I'd like to create a profile that runs with only the bare minimum programs running in the background for capturing.

I'm not sure if it is possible, but it would be nice to be able to do this.

You can but, from my experience, background tasks (with the exception of virus software) don't interrupt nearly as often as hardware issues, XP indexing and spyware.

So I didn't find setting up a separate log-in worth the effort.

On the other hand, you can set up a separate hardware configuration in your Device Manager (at least in XP) and at least turn off your networking devices and cable modem in a simple step.

Spybot is a free download that does a good job of cleaning spyware off your pc.
