I know this may be dumb, but what is the ideal size for a background image? I want to fill the screen but place a graphic near the edge of the background image so getting the right size wold be a big help.
For a 4:3 project (ie, not widescreen), it's best for the background image to be 655x480. DVD Architect will adjust for the difference in pixel aspect ratios when it renders this as a 720x480 file. (If you don't know what that means, just trust me. If you do, groovy.)
At any rate, no matter what size you give DVDA, it will compensate somehow. Either by stretching the image, zooming in on it, or by letterboxing or pilloring it. You can choose which method is used -- in the event that the image isn't the right proportions -- by changing the Stretch Type on the Background Media tab of the Properties window. Stretch is the default.
Also, if you're placing graphics and want them to be sure they're seen, pay mind to the safe zones, the dotted lined boxes on the menu workspace.
I made one a bit smaller and no matter how I told it to compensate, it showed on the DVD with a white margin. Now, I'll make it the right size to start with!
