Background video/animated buttons question

Does DVDA support having an animated background while the DVD menu is playing? How about animated buttons? Like can I take a chunk of the video (MPEG2) I'm making a movie from and loop a region of it or do I need to do that in Vegas 4 and give it that? Or is this even possible?! If I *CAN* do this, please explain in detail.
Anyone know of a database of COOL looping videos that are free to use? Also, if animated buttons are possible, how do I do it? Say on the 'Scene Selection' screen and I have 5 chapters....the 5 buttons will play video in their little windows from THEIR chapter point on.

Thanks! And great job SOFO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes I think this is possible. I think you just set the background / button file to be a video file. You can also offset the start position and loop time in the properties fields on the right of the screen. It's all explained in detail in the manual (chapter 3, pages 23 and 27) and online help.

Yes you can have an animated background. However the DVD spec does not allow animated buttons. DVDA has a built in video compositing feature that will allow you associate a video clip with a button. When the DVD is built, the button's video is composited into the background giving you the "look" of an animated button. Its a subtle difference but one that you may need to know. For instance, if you have a DVD-Legal backgound and use animated buttons, the background need to be re-encoded. If you have the backgound as uncompressed, you could do the compositing yourself in Vegas render to MPEG.

Learn something new every day... I never knew that DVD-A was pulling off a trick like that with the animated buttons.

How do I use a segment of my video file as the animated background? Is there a way to do it other than using a 2nd MPEG2 file? Example: I have a movie with 6 chapters and I want the background, while on the menu screen, to play 30 seconds of chapter 3 and loop it....... how? I understand the looping but how do I use that chapter 3?

http://www.mainconcept.com/texture_loops.shtml

Cut and paste this link to take you to Main Concepts site. They do free Motion Loops each month. Trust Me, buy the disc of 100 loops $20 well spent!

These are the same guys that make the MPEG Encoder for Vegas.
