bad burn

I've used DVD3 paired with VMS in the past, just very basic stuff, lightly edited home movies, nothing fanicier.

I've upgraded this past month to vegas pro and DVD5.0 Build 119. I've done about 5 burns so far and each one is bad. I'm using NTFS for the rendering and using a pre burn folder on a 300GB hard drive with over 260 GB free space. My latest burn was only 2 GB total size.

All 5 have a bunch of vertical lines over parts or all of the entire screen and the amount and placement of the lines changes with the scenes, almost as if they're bouncing around. they seem to have or cause a ghosting effect on the entire scene also. I've never seen this before and I can't seem to find info on this as I'm not sure what to call it. I've burned on 3 different types of media, all the same results, I've used DVD-R, DVD+R and DVD+RW, TDK and Verbatim. I'm feeling pretty sure it's something in the program because this variety has produced the exact same problematic results each time.

When I've played the rendered AVI file back on the computer, it looks just fine. When I play the VOB files back on the computer, they also look fine, although I'm noticing they're darker than the AVI files. Is there a setting to lighten up the images for the burn?

I'm on an Athlon 64 Dual Core 4200, Ge Force 6600 x16 PCIe 256MB video, 3GB Ram, capturing in vegas pro 8.0.

Any suggestions, please, would help>
