The Preview Window runs very "blocky" pix. When I select the display as full size option, the video is good qualtiy, but of
course it is huge and I see only a portion. Are there any adjustments I'm forgetting. I'm running Studio DV and the preview
window shows the video very well.
The preview is blocky because of the quality setting, most
likely. Look right above the window where it says "XXXXX
quality", where "XXXXX" is the setting. Click it, and a
pull-down list will come out. If the preview looks blocky,
it's probably set on "Draft". Set it to "Preview" or "Good"
and see if the image improves. Also, don't run more than
one video app at a time. Simulatneous Direct Draw should be
avoided whenever possible. Try this out and reply if it
works.
Simultaneous direct-draw is when you have two video
applications open at the same time, and both are using
direct-draw (it's a type of video display method). Some
programs handle this better than others, but to avoid any
possible problems, avoid it. When these two programs are
open, and both are displaying video images, it prevents
advanced hardware features from being used to make the
video look cleaner, like mip-mapping or anti-aliasing. To
prevent this, just have one video application open at a
time. If the problem still exists, write back again.
Only VF is running. When the preview window is large, i.e., filling most of the right side of the screen and leaving room for at
most one track, the picture is good in preview mode. However, when I resize the preview screen so that I can see two or
three tracks on my 17" monitor the preview goes blurry, ala draft mode, and nothing brings it back. Clicking the preview, or
good, or best button doesn't change anything. By the way, I'm running w98se with 500 meg and 256 memory. I have two
primary partitions both with the same OS, but one has DirectX8 and the other DirectX7 (it's a long story). In both partitions the
same thing occurs with VF. I have VF installed on another logical drive.
I "floated" the preview window and the problem occurred when I made the preview window smaller. It went
from preview quality to draft quality and would not go back again. The only thing that works is to quit the
program without saving, restart, and work with a big preview window. Does this have to do with my video card
settings, or my display settings, or simply that I'm working with a 17" monitor? I'm stumped.
