Vegas does this automatically when it prints to tape. No need to drop anything on the timeline. If you want bars and tone on the timeline for some reason, you will have to supply your own tone. Sound Forge can produce one for you or you can download one from the web, or just print to tape and capture just the tone back to a wav file.

Befroe I was enlightened :)....I used Premiere also. There were a couple of things like bars and tone and the universal counter that I liked also as well as some others. I just loaded those into premiere and create an AVI with them. Now I just drop them on the timeline in Vegas should I want or need them.

Technically the bars and tone should come from the the video camera that was used to record the program you are editing, they are pretty much useless if you just download them from somewhere or use other bars from a diffrent program.
