Batch Capture Problems

I can log the shots OK but when doing batch capture I often get the message

"The time code entered could not be found
It is possible that the timecode does not exist

Please check to see that the correct timecode has been entered"

(its a lie the code does exist)

There is a checkbox saying "do not show this message again"

The choice of dv device (all Sony) seems critical and also whether the tape position is far from the start point of the capture. It also occurs more frequently on a m/c using Win98SE.

I am coming to the conclusion that it happens if Video Capture decides to FF or RW instead cue/review.

All functions work in video|Microsoft DV Camera and VCR properties for all devices
seem to work including search

3 Questions

1) what happens if I check the "do not show this message again"? Bit afraid to try until I know how to reverse the process -- but would it solve the problem?

2) Is there any way of stopping FF/RW to check my theory

3) Has anyone else out there had the same problem?

Thanks in advance

The problem could be with your original camera DV tape. It is recommended that you put the lens cap on your camera and completely record a blank tape. This puts a contiguous time-code on the whole tape. Otherwise, every time that you start and stop recording scenes, you may accidentally leave a small time gap. The timecode counter will reset to zero at that spot and mess up all your time locations. The Help section of Vegas Video capture module tells you all this better than me.

Yes I know this and it was my first idea but i checked this by using a tape that was just one long shot with the same results. The tape works fine on another computer.

I have heard that NEC chipped firewire cards can cause probs --- think that might be it

Thanks for your help
