BCC+Blur FX creates a mostly black screen

beaverbrook wrote on 6/20/2023, 7:43 AM

I have isolated a Mocha Pro module and need to give it a blur effect.
The problem is, I can't see the background in the FX Editor so I can't easily match the background with the effect.
Also initiating the blur effect seems to have also made a portion of my preview window contain this strange black screen + red X where I can't even see a preview for anything near where I input the blur effect.

Is it possible to apply a blur effect while also being able to see the background so I can match the effect to my scene?
And how did this mess with my preview window?

Thank you.

The red X in a BorisFX plugin indicates a BorisFX licensing problem. If you've just updated Mocha Pro to the latest version (2023) - in the plugin go to the Licence and Registration selection and hit the Licence Control button which should lead you to register Mocha Pro using your Mocha Pro serial number. I recall that I had to do this when updating to the latest Mocha Pro version a little while back.

I found another effect called "defocus". It doesn't have the X because it is a regular Vegas effect. I might worry about the X problem later.

But the only thing I need now, is to have the defocus effect come in gradually (over time).

I need it to go from 0 to max in about 1 second. I don't know how to do that.

Thanks.

Correction on my earlier comment after looking closer at your uploaded image. You are not in fact using Mocha Pro; rather you are using the Mocha masking feature of a BCC video FX effect. Mocha Pro is a rather expensive plugin which has some advanced features including Insert, Replace, Stabilise and Remove which makes it far more advanced than the basic Mocha mask/tracker available in most BCC VFX (but which is highly useful in BCC VFX).

The red cross indicates that you do not have a licence for that BorisFX Continuum (BCC) plugin. So the question becomes: do you have a BorisFX licence for either the entire BCC Suite (costs $695 USD from BorisFX)? - or the BCC Blur & Sharpen Unit? If you do have a BorisFX licence for the full BCC Suite of the Blur Unit, you'll need to contact BorisFX about the issue.

Or is it that you got something like BorisFX Primatte Studio with your Vegas Pro purchase but have installed the entire BCC Suite? If this is the case, your BorisFX licence is for Primatte Studio only but unfortunately nothing else in the BCC Suite.

Yes, your last sentence is correct. I have "Primatte Studio". And yes, I remember selecting the option to see all available effects when I installed it, just to have an idea of what's available. So that solves that question.

I also have the Mocha Pro plugin.
