BCC text vs Graffiti

kairosmatt wrote on 2/21/2011, 12:58 PM
Just looking for a comparison of BCC's text capabilities for those with experience with both. I have downloaded the BCC demo, and it seems like it can do with extruded text everything Graffiti can, but I am probably missing stuff.

I realize that BCC comes with many other fantastic effects and Graffiti has its own unique interface (and it doesn't work great as a Vegas plugin, but that may change with the upgrade to 6).

Those things aside, if you are just doing text are there things one can do that the other can't? Are they both capable of providing the same results at the same quality?

Thanks

BCC 7 Extruded text crashes my Vegas 10 so I have never used it

I want to transfer my BCC 7 to my other editing PC and can’t get BORIS FX to transfer my license to the new PC
I’ve e-mailed them ,my supplier has e-mailed them. it’s a simple request for 3 months now …No reply.

What if I upgraded my PC = my old license key won’t work

I am using RED for my extruded text and other stuff in Vegas, and it is very good plus it does what BCC 7 does only schlep is
I have to convert some clips to mov to pull into red on a layered track in Vegas

Boris BLUE is also very good and allows you to import 3d objects on the timeline, works in Avid great but Borisfx is not going to make it available in Vegas

SADSACK is all I can say, Boris is going backward while Sony Vegas is going forward.

I too had problems with this plugin. On my XP 32 it worked fine, but Vista 64 it only worked in 64 bit and not 32 bit Vegas. (I still use 32 bit Vegas because of Raylight and Cinescore). It doesn't crash, but I get an error message about not having enough graphics card power to render. Yet it works in Vegas 64.

Bummer about your license. I was in the exact same situation with Graffiti, and Boris responded the next day with new codes.

There have been indications from Boris that Red (and hence probably Graffiti and FX-didn't know Blue was specifically not included) will be upgraded and include better plugin support for Vegas. That's why I'm trying to figure out if its worth it to get BCC7 with all its goddies or just struggle on with Graffiti for a while longer.

At any rate, Graffiti for all its interface cumbersomeness is still better than ProType.

No. BCC 7 doesn't have the full text capabilities of Graffiti. If you Launch the Text Window from BCC 7 and do the same in Graffiti or RED, you'll see that most of the first tab is the same, but in the other 4 tabs BCC 7 has minimal functionality. Also Graffiti has the Style Browser with lots and lots of built-in styles that BCC 7 doesn't have. This is an enormous benefit if you don't want to always make a style from scratch.

So if your primarily work is with 2D text titles, Graffiti is the better choice.

There are more than indications... Boris demoed a beta of RED 5 on Vegas Pro at the webinar last Thursday so it is definitely in the works and on the way. ;-)

Thanks JR,
I had noticed that in the text window, but it took me a little while to realize that in Graffiti all those options are for 2D text only. Basically BCC7 doesn't do 2D text and Graffiti does plus it has the library browser.

I missed that webinar and Boris hasn't posted it yet. Is it safe to assume that Graffiti and FX will get the same Vegas 10 makeover as Red?

The whole Boris team is late by about 3 years with any real updates to any of the programs. Sure they make up a new program here and there to keep us going but as a software company they have fell way behind in the times. I'm disappointed in the entire team at Boris for their slow progress. The fact that Boris Blue even exists with that cheesy name is testament to all that is lame in the software world. How many Boris products do we need? How many New Blue products do we need?

In the end all it does is clog up the efx window with a million New Blue entries. Poor show indeed.

While it may have taken them a while to jump on the 64-bit bandwagon, they were one of the first to support the Vegas Pro 10 OFX API and as a Vegas editor, you gotta give them credit for that. Regardless of how overdue you may think it is, BCC 7 integration with Vegas Pro is just amazing. As I've said before, I hardly use After Effects anymore now that I can do tasks like motion tracking, 3D text, and deformers, etc. right in Vegas Pro.

I created a folder in the plug-in manager for all of my Boris and NewBlue FX. It makes finding them very easy and there is no clog. Vegas doesn't have an API to make the folders automatically so you have to do it manually. This is a Vegas limitation and not any fault of plug-in providers but it's easily fixed by making them yourself.

Hmm, I feel completely the opposite. I bought Boris FX, then Graffiti, and later on Red. In hindsight I should have bought After Effects. Red sucks balls in every way compared to any Adobe product. I just wish I didn't have to find out from 1st hand experience that the Boris team is made of of two people and they are both salesman.
(sarcasm) I've been left holding this Boris bag of crap for years without any real updates. In fact I went to MB becasue Boris sucked so bad. Now MB is leaving Vegas. Do the math and you will see Vegas editors are bottom feeders.

After Effects is a MILLION times better then anything Boris has to offer and that is just a FACT. If you want to get into motion graphics After Effects is the BEST!!!

My advice is don't waste your time with anything Boris makes. I regret that I did every day I open vegas.

I am a new Boris user, but when I was having install problems, they were extremely helpful with prompt suggestions and we eventually got the problem fixed. (And the problem was on my end). support@borisfx.com responded within minutes of my posting a question.

My experience with Boris has alos been a very positive one. I needed to upgrade my edit PC and transfer boris continuum software., The boris support staff were quick to respond and assist. I am also grateful to boris for the continuum software and support for vegas. Whilst there are obviously many options to choose from in regard to software for multi media or video production, what i like about vegas is you can achieve so much within the one application. Boris continuum operating within vegas further enhances that funtionality. I thank JR for the informative and very useful webinars and tutorials.

Never had a problem with Boris support when needing new license because of getting a new computer or upgrading an existing computer. One email explaining why I need a new license and they reply with the required info.

I finally did get a new license and all is well with the other pc except for extruded text it’s a 8800GT graphics card with the latest driver and I still am unable to get text fired up, the other pc has a Quadro fx 3800 same story, the 88gt handles Red and Blue no problem but not BCC7 TEXT

That's really strange because I have a 9800GT and it works fine.

One thing you might want to do is use the latest drivers from your card manufacturer NOT from NVIDIA. Boris uses OpenGL and I've had problems in the past with other OpenGL applications and the latest NVIDIA drivers with older cards. Once I switched to the drivers from my card manufacturer (even though they were back-leveled), it all worked fine because those have been tested and guaranteed to work with your hardware. It's worth a try.

Rory,
Your profile says that you are still on XP, but have you upgraded to a 64-bit OS already?

If you have, have you tried BCC TEXT in both 32 bit and 64 bit Vegas?

32 Bit Vegas on Vista 64 would not work with the text for me, but 64 bit Vegas did.

I'm not getting suckered into buying another Boris Product that has no future. I was mad when Blue came out and it's features were not given in a Red upgrade. Red and Blue are practically the same program.

After Effects has been the perfect program and the leading graphic motion program for years. Boris doesn't even come close. After Effects is the standard in the industry and sets the stage for motion graphics. Boris DOES NOT! Boris copies what After Effects does and does a poor job at it.

Did Boris really think it's long time customers would forget how they have been forgotten.

IMO Boris is the worst.
