I have been unsucessful at getting Cyberlinks "PowerDVD" to play back BD's made with Sony's DVDAarch studio - these discs play just fine on my Sony BD player. I have given up on getting PowerDVD to do the job having tried vers 9,10, & 11. I have boith BD reader and writer drives but right now I have no software that will play back a BD on my PC. Any suggestions would be apprecaited - I am actually willing to pay for it !! Do not need to burn just play back ... Thanks, K

OK now = not so OK - -installed the trial version and tried to play the BD and got "media not supported" . The "meda"i is a 23 min AVCHD ( player software does recognise the format) video burned on a DVD . DVD space use is 3.06 GB .Tried a commerical BD disc and got the same reaction =does not recognize and then the software "does not respond >>??
This is 2nd player software that will not play this combination = AVCHD on a DVD disk - and yet my Sony Bluray player plays it just fine - This is a situation I have been chasing for a few months now - will try another down load and install but little light at the end of this tunnel K

Oh, you didn't say you needed that feature also.

Then you need the plug-in pack.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding.

Is this a standard BluRay disc you're trying to play or an AVC BluRay?

I do not know the difference -here is what I did -
This is a"single movie" on a DVD disc burned using DVDArch . I made a "bluray" iso file using video AVC 1920x1080i 16:9 (=page 115 of your book)... I then burned a "blueray disc" using the make "Blu ray disc" feature on the tool bar. The project started with AVCHD video from a Sony Camcorder and was rendered to a .m2v & a w64 file. These were used to make the iso file which was used to burn the disc.
Since you asked which I assume the play back is effected by which type BD ??
- is there a software player that can deal with all of these types and will jsut play the disc (like my Sony Blue ray disc player does) ?? Thanks, K

I have made true AVCHD on DVD discs with other software and a BD5 with DVDAS. Both played fine with PowerDVD 8. The true AVCHD disc also played fine in Media Player Classic, but the DVDAS disc started to play but eventually crashed.

I can't play the DVDAS discs in my Panasonic Blu-ray recorder, but a number of contributors have reported success with other players.

If you've got BluRay files on a disc and you're playing it on a BluRay disc player using BluRay player software, I have no idea why it doesn't work, knockatoon. Sorry. It should. (The fact that your standalone disc player can play it seems to prove that the software did what it was supposed to do.)

BTW, when you bought your computer or BluRay disc drive, didn't it come with BluRay player software? They usually do.

Steve,
Yes it came with Power DVD 8 I have been up thru vers 11 with them and they really do not have a clue -just keep suggesting I try a new version which has been of no help. I would suspect hardware but I have a reader drive and a reader /writer drive by differenet manufactures and neither will play these home made disc's v- any chance it is the DVD disc that is the problem ? - guess I should try a burn to a real BD and see what happens - today I tried a comercail movie BD and could not play it on the PC .... Think I will see what Corel and their plug ins may do ?? thanks but after abour 3 or 4 months I do not have a clue what to do or try ... K

YO!!
There is a Santa claus - found a Bluray player plugin for my good old Roxio Creater 2010 that seems to want to play anything you can feed it -including my "problem" BD discs !!

Just to close the subject... K

FYI -Corel just told me that the trial version of their Win DVD does not include the Bluray capability or a few other things -must buy to try.......
