best approach to handle latency

Hi Vegas Fam:

I recently had a 6 track tune of pre-recorded stuff and decided to add some
live percussion. It all sounded fine during recording, but when played
back togather, I found that the newly recorded track was considerably off
in time. (i.e. I have since discovered the problem was due to latency).

Q1) does anyone know of best way to line these tracks now, without having
to re-record? e.g. track offset feature in Vegas, etc. ?

Q2) I saw a recent post about how to actually measure the latency of a
MOTU based system and compensate for it. If re-recording is only way
to fix, then what is best way to adjust for latency ?

setup:

ADAT 8-Trk
Mackie 1604 VLZ

Layla 24/96 w/PCI card
ABit BE6-II MB
P3 800 w/768 MB RAM
Hercules AGP w/64MB VRAM

Typically, I dump traks from ADAT to PC using Layla 24/96 and edit using
Vegas. I could possibly then edit traks first, then return them to ADAT for
recording additional tracks (since ADAT has no such latency). However, this
work-around is a bit time consuming.

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Rahman
